The 7th world cogress of the World Society of Anti Aging Medicine WOSAAM was all dedicated to a best possible prevention of illnesses. Under the patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco more than 4.000 physicians got together from the 19th to the 21st of May 2009 from around the world More than 250 international scientists and physicians specialising in Anti-Aging-Medicine, aesthetic surgery and dermatology reported on safe therapeutic measures helping towards a better wellbeing, younger appearance or higher performance.
In the frameworks of the event the World MediSpa Association was officially inaugurated. More and more often Medical SPA treatments, a combination of medicine and Wellness/SPA are being offered worldwide. Unfortunately many of these offers are lacking much reputable content. The term as such is not proprietary and therefore does not guarantee any quality of the treatments on offer. As well, to date there are no standards within the medical education which would be tailored towards Medical SPAs. However, particularly in this area a specialized experise in integrative medicine is required. Such an approach, with a specifically tailored education will be taken by the new society. A qualification for hotels is also planned.
The founder of the World MediSPA Association, Dr. med. Mario Krause, acts as scientific advisor for the WOSAAM and has engaged in the integration of medicine in the hotel and tourism sectors. His statement: „It is time for the description „medical“ to refer to medical treatments. The combination of medical experise and soft treatments within a service-oriented and pleasant environment will achieve results which would not be possible within a classic clinical context.“
